Updated Proposal

Hey guys! We went edit our proposal last week and I'm just now getting the updated version on here. Sorry it took so long:)

Crossing Borders
Scholarship Proposal

We are a group of students in Skye Gentiles communication 2 class who have been given the opportunity to create and complete a leadership project of our choice. For our project we have decided to establish an annual scholarship that aims at hosting a student who doesn’t have the resources or support yet is striving to pursue a higher education. We believe that all people deserve and bare the right to achieve their educational goals. Educating oneself is not a luxury but a right, and we are dedicated to providing at least one more outlet for making these goals a reality.

We have created the following requirements for the scholarship applicants to be considered to be rewarded with the scholarship:
o 3.0 GPA of higher
o In good academic standing at current school
o Must be currently enrolled in a Communications course*
o Provide Transcripts from current school
o Two letters of recommendation
• One academic
• One personal
o Prove low-income status
o Two one page student statements
• What are your future educational and career goals?
• What do you hope to take from this experience in order to apply it to your future community?

We are going to try to find a school to get in contact with to become a sister school with to help advertise the scholarship to their students.

We are going to fundraise money through sponsorships, a silent art auction, and other fund raising techniques.

Our goal is for this to be a positive learning experience for the selected student that allows them to achieve their educational goals.

* If you are a high school student you will be required to enroll in at least one communications course.

10/30/08

Carrie is not here today!
We have decided to do our leadership presentation on chapters 5 and 6.
Specifically, we are going to talk about maintaining control, communicating with flexibility, syncing-in, and the parc formula.
We are presenting on November 6th.

Group Project

10.28.2008
Carrie was late today.....but she made it :)
So we chose the book "Emotionally Intelligent Leadership: Inspiring Others to Achieve Results" for our group project/presentation. Our main focus is going to be chapters 5 and 6: The Core Skills and Developing Core Skills.
Game Ideas: less nonverbal and more verbal skills
~two planks with ropes....have teams and they could talk to eachother.
~diagram with the over head and different shapes
~lemon test
~jeopardy
*we chose to do the plank one but we didnt have enough time and it would have been pretty expensive to do. So we are going to go with jeopardy unless we think of something new.

* Oh, we took our blog picture and we shall put it up here soon......we all look so cute in it!!!

Skye reviewed our scholarship proposal. We have a few things to edit and add. Maya is going to review the proposal and put the finishing touches on it~ thanks bunches Maya!

We decided that over the weekend we are to finish the Handbook of Emotionally Intelligent Leadership, take notes and pick 3 topics/concepts that we valued in order to discuss it in class on Tuesday, Oct. 28 so we can come up with our Team Project topic.

Our goals for this coming week are to finish the proposal, finish the book and begin discussing it together, and set up a time to meet with Student Affairs in regards to our project.

See you Tuesday!

Team Workshop...Proposal Day

Carrie was late today, but she was there, yay:)

We planned out our proposal. Maya had a hard copy of a proposal she typed up and we compiled our ideas to expand on the proposal. We decided to add an introduction that includes our purpose, a little about ourselves, and why we believe in the scholarship. We also discussed what requirements we feel need to be met by the scholarship applicants to be eligible to recieve the scholarship.

On Thursday we are going to type up our final draft of the proposal and hopefully be able to plan out our next step.

Team Workshop 2

Despite having already posted on the blog, our accomplishment for Thursday was creating our blog:) We are still waiting to hear back on setting up an appointment with the President of Cabrillo in regards to our scholarship plan. We had hoped that we might complete our project proposal letter but ran out of time. Our priority for next time is to make progress on that. Carrie was absent on Thursday. See you next week!

Frances' creative efforts were put to creating our symbol, stay tuned! All were in attendance today and we managed to meet with Cabrillo's President's secretary to set up a meeting time with Dr. King. We are waiting to hear back on this. We brain stormed fundraising ideas. We came up with the idea of holding an art silent auction.
